UK PRIMARY & SECONDARY SCHOOL CLASSES

for English-speaking children

  • Are you the parent of an English-speaking child in Toulouse, elsewhere in France or another EU country?

  • Do you want them to learn to read and write in English alongside other English-speaking children?

  • Do you want them to experience learning English as it is taught in UK schools?

Founded in 2012 by Emma Nelson, a teacher and mum of three bilingual children in the French school system who could answer 'yes' to almost all of those questions at the time, Jack in the Box has been offering UK primary and secondary school classes in Toulouse for the last ten years, and is an entirely English speaking environment.

It is open to children with native level understanding.  It may be the case that your child doesn't use English regularly at home as bilingual children often favour one language over the other, depending on where they're living. But as long as they understand what is said to them in English, they will benefit from our classes. We usually find that within 3-6 months of them spending time with other children just like them at JitB, they start communicating in English with the English-speaking parent at home. They no longer feel like 'the only one'.

Since 2019 we have entered nine students for the IGCSE English Language and Literature exams and all have achieved excellent results.

The success of our Covid-enforced Zoom classes in 2020 convinced us to move the entire secondary section online in 2021, and we are absolutely delighted to be able to offer our classes to students outside of Toulouse!

Luca's absolutely loved JitB and is reading away brilliantly in English, which is totally down to you guys. An amazing thing to be part of. You should be very proud. - Alison, mum to Luca (5)

Clémence joined JitB Toulouse at its outset in 2012 when she was 10, two years after our arrival in France, and we've never looked back! Last year, she passed the IGCSE English Language and English Literature exams with grade 'A's in both, and these achievements are now featuring in her UCAS application to British universities. Although she was always an avid reader, we would never have been able to help her progress with her written language skills in line with her peers in the British system without the classes at 'Jack in the Box Toulouse'.  Apart from really enjoying the challenge and fun of the lessons, she also appreciated being connected with other children like her, which helped her to feel less isolated.

A big thank you to all the wonderful, motivating JITB teachers we have encountered over the years, and especially to Emma, without whose determination Clémence wouldn't have had the chance to blossom in her mother tongue! - Rosemary, mum to Clémence (17)

"I definitely believe JitB provide the best English classes in the Toulouse area.  I have been so happy with everything - the curriculum and the teachers. Aymeric took group classes last year elsewhere because there wasn't a suitable class for him, but it was nothing compared to the level at JitB! Sixtine had so much fun with Emily working on WW1 poetry and doing drama. They learnt so much - poetry, history, literature. And Alix has really enjoyed all her classes. It's definitely thanks to JitB that she has been able to keep up her English".

Axelle, mum to Sixtine (16), Aymeric (13) and Alix (6)
